Peaceful Revolution

A moment for the history books: On Monday, April 28, 2025, a chapter of Leipzig's art history will end. The last part of the Michael Fischer-Art mural is removed — by the artist himself, with a saw.

After over six months of intensive work The “Freedom of Art” project is entering its final phase. Since autumn 2024, the iconic wall painting near Brühl has been separated from the concrete piece by piece — entirely by hand. Each segment was removed with sawing and precision to save the art before the surface finally disappeared.

Am April 28th The most symbolically significant moment is now imminent: The last wall piece will be replaced — live on site, under the eyes of the press, supporters and curious people. Michael Fischer-Art will make the final cut himself — a powerful image for the conclusion of this extraordinary project.

Remembering the Peaceful Revolution — now as an art object all over the world

The colorful wall painting was created in 2009 on the occasion of 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall created. It was visibly reminiscent of the Peaceful revolution, which originates in Leipzig. It was a lively part of the urban landscape for over 15 years — now it lives on in a different form.

Because many of the wall pieces have already been sold — to collectors in Berlin, New York, Sydney and many other places. Large segments as well as small pieces on carrier plates can now be found as original works of art all over the world.

Preserving art — and shaping the future

Part of the income was also used to creative projects with children to enable. In this way, “artistic freedom” was not only able to preserve memory, but also provide new impetus — for creativity, participation and community.

April 28 will therefore not only mark the end of a wall — but also the visible beginning of a new life cycle of this special work of art.
