On January 6, Michael Fischer-Art began a project that once again shows how art can change not only walls but also lives. In the orphanage in Grünau, he transforms empty, white walls into colorful works of art that give the children a new perspective.
The origin of this project lies in another project of artistic freedom: to secure wall pieces in the city of Leipzig that would otherwise be lost. These pieces are sold and the proceeds go to charitable projects such as the orphanage in Grünau. “Just as we saw off in the city and sell the pieces, we buy paint to create charitable objects,” explains Fischer-Art.
The orphanage was the perfect place for Michael's work: white walls waiting to be filled with life. “It is always exciting to hit somewhere where everything is really white at the beginning. That's exactly where the story is needed,” says the artist. He has set himself the task of intervening in such places, precisely because the means for creative design are often lacking.
Working with the children was both a particular challenge and a pleasure. They wanted a rocket — and Michael then adapted his painting to fulfill this wish. The result: a work of art that not only stimulates children's imagination, but also focuses on their ideas and dreams.
This project shows how art not only creates visual changes, but can also have a real social impact. The children not only received a redesigned space, but also the feeling of being part of a creative process.
With every piece of wall sold, projects like this can be realized. Artistic freedom is committed to bringing art to places that are often overlooked. You too can help bring color and hope to where they are needed most.
